With this ring . . . OUCH!!!

Believe it or not, one of the most common wedding day struggles is getting the ring on the bride or groom's finger.  Nervousness will often result in swelling of the joints.  If you are having a destination wedding, there is the added swelling that can come with travel.
Result: the rings often get stuck!

Not to worry, there are a few simple things you can do to help slip those rings on smoothly.  If you saw "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" you might remember that the father of the bide thought the cure for EVERYTHING was Windex.  Well when it comes to swollen fingers, he's right!
  •
  • Spray the knuckle on your ring finger with Windex shortly before the wedding.  This will help the swelling go down.
  • Your wedding band is worn at the base of the finger.  I teach my brides a little trick to help remember this: your wedding ring, like your husband, should always be closest to your heart.  Many brides move their engagement ring to their right hand for the ceremony.  Check your engagement ring the morning of the wedding.  If it is stuck, back to the Windex!  Spray a little on the knuckle and it will slide right off.  Windex will not damage gold or gems so it is safe to use on jewelry.  Remember to move it back to your left hand after the ceremony for your pictures.
  • To help the rings slide on more easily, rub the inside of the rings with bar soap.  Be aware that soap will leave a residue on the ring, so remember to clean it later.
  • Never use lotions or oils on the rings.  The only thing this does is increase the chance the ring is going to slip right out of your fingers and go rolling down the aisle.
Have a backup plan ~
  • If the ring gets stuck, don't struggle.  Leave it just above the knuckle and let the wearer wiggle it down when you face away from the guests.  No one will know the difference and your photographer will be thrilled that you don't have a swollen, red finger for your ring closeup.

Now that we've set the mood, how about an evening in with your fiance or your wedding girls?

Mix up some Windex martinis:
  • 1 ounce blue curacao
  • 1 ounce triple sec
  • 1 ounce vodka
  • a splash of lime juice to taste
  • 1 cup ice
Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker over ice and shake.  Vodka martinis should be shaken NOT stirred (unless you enjoy the taste of lighter fluid).  Strain into well chilled martini glasses.
